Ethical Principles
The publication of an article in an ethical way directly reflects the quality work of the author/their group and their institutions that supports them. The quality publication of an article in an open access journal is a coherent development in the community of scientific knowledge. Peer review process exemplifies and supports the scientific method of Open Access publishing. Therefore, Publication Ethics is a very important tool for an author who resembles in the scientific community.
Author Ethical Topics to be considered while publishing in an Open Access Journal:
Originality and Plagiarism check: All the authors must and should ensure that they have written article/s which are entirely original works (without Plagiarized/rewriting content) but if they have used any of the work and/ words, they can cite them in the content appropriately (which is acceptable under permissive level).
Authorship: Authorship must be limited; i.e., it can be given to those who have made a significant contribution to the reported study.
Data access: Our Editorial Team has the rights to ask the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, where the authors have to be prepared to provide public access to such data to put forth the genuine work error free.
Note: Authors must provide access to the databases used in the study based on the necessity.
Multiple/Repeated publications of the same Research: AJMH does NOT allow an author to publish manuscripts/articles describing especially the same research in more than one journal. But it will NOT consider the publications in the form of an abstract; academic thesis; electronic preprint.
Acknowledging the work: Author’s should provide proper acknowledgement of other studies, in the case of refereeing manuscripts or grant applications these must NOT be used without the written permission of the author of the study involved in those services.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All submissions must include disclosure of all relationships that could be viewed as presenting a potential conflict of interest. The conflict can be actual or potential, and full disclosure to the journal is the safest path, so that a decision can be made by the journal to publish or NOT to publish based on the declared conflicts of interest.
Note: The journal may also use such information as a basis for editorial decisions and may publish such disclosures if they are believed to be important to readers in judging the manuscript.
It is compulsory that every article should mention the ‘Disclosure Statement’ as a sub-heading at the end of the text; under which all authors must disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest, including any financial, personal or other relationships with other people or organizations which could inappropriately influence (bias) their study.
The potential conflicts of interest that should be disclosed includes: grants or other funding, employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, and patent applications/registrations. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.
Note: If any conflicts of interests exists after submitting the article/ when article is under process/ article is at its final stages, AJMH will NOT allow for the Retraction of the article at that stages, and the author has to pay minimum fee of 100$ as a Retraction fee. Hence, potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed at the earliest stage possible to avoid all these issues.
Funding Sources: All the sources of funding should be mentioned clearly under the heading ‘Role of Funding Source’ under separate section in the text and should be placed before References section. Under which authors MUST describe the below points:
-Role of the study sponsor(s), (if any) in the study design,
-In the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data,
-In the writing of the report, and
-In the decision to submit the article for publication
Fundamental errors in published works: When an author identifies/discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her OWN PUBLISHED work, it is the author’s responsibility to notify the journal editor immediately (or) publisher and should cooperate with the editor to RETRACT or CORRECT the paper, based on the error complicacy.
Reporting standards: Authors should report the ‘Original Researches’ if used in their study, and also should mention the objective discussion of their significance in the study performed. The underlying data used should be represented accurately. An article should be complete in the sense it should contain all the details clearly so that it should permit others to replicate the study.
Note: Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constituted unethical behavior and were unacceptable.
Hazards and human or animal subjects: Authors should mention the hazardous substances clearly in the article, if the study involves chemicals, procedures or equipment that have any unusual hazards inherent in their use, it is the author’s responsibility to clearly identify these kind of things in the manuscript. If the study involves animal / human subjects and / human specimens example extracted tooth part /soft tissue etc. as a part of the study, the author must ensure that the manuscript contains a statement stating that, ‘All procedures have been performed in compliance with the relevant laws and institutional guidelines’ and that ‘the appropriate Institutional Committee(s) has approved of them’ along with the approval certificate/ letter of approval from the Institution/ Organization. Author should also take the permission from the Animal Ethics Committee for the usage of animals in the study, in the form of consent letter. Authors submitting their manuscript in the clinical science and techniques / case report category must include a statement in the manuscript stating that the ‘Informed consent has been obtained for experimentation with human subjects’ for the performed technique / investigation involving human specimens (example: tooth part / soft tissue biopsy etc).
Note: The privacy rights of human subjects must always be observed.
Use of patient images or case details: Reports/Studies on patients/ volunteers requires
approval from Ethics Committee along with informed consent which has to be documented along with the article, if the author wishes to include case details personnel information or images of patients or any other individuals in AJMH publication. Authors have to provide the copies informed consents or permissions or evidence on publisher’s request. Particular care MUST be taken while obtaining consent/s from children. Special care has to be taken while mentioning the patient’s name or personnel details or if his/ her face or head appears in the article.
Suggesting Reviewers: Authors should mention the correct reason for suggesting reviewers (suitable reviewers with the appropriate experience to review) and should mention the correct details of them, provided there should not have a conflict of interest.
Note: Suggested reviewers should not be the co-author or any author of the article in past 5 years of their publications.
